How to organize a badminton tournament with La Ronde Suisse?

La Ronde Suisse is a free online tool that makes it easy to organize badminton tournaments according to the Swiss system. Here are the essential parameters to configure for a successful tournament.

Basic configuration

Tournament name: Choose a clear, identifiable name, e.g. “Tournoi Open Badminton Club XYZ 2024”. You can also enter the tournament date, which will be displayed in the posting and sharing link.

Team size: For badminton, select :

  • 1 for a singles or doubles tournament with teams that are always the same
  • 2 for a doubles tournament with teams randomly created for each round.

Points system

Choose detailed score with or without victory points: Activate this option to record the scores for each set (21-19, 21-16, etc.).

Number of sets: Badminton is generally played to the best of 3 sets. So set a maximum of 3 sets.

Site layout

Number of courts: Indicate the number of badminton courts available to optimize match organization.

Playing area names: Change “Table” to “Terrain” for greater clarity.

Matching criteria

Players can’t meet twice: Keep this criterion activated to respect the Swiss system.

Balance match levels: This option matches players/teams of similar level as the tournament progresses.

Classification criteria

Use the ranking and tie-breaking criteria in the following order:

  1. Matches won : Total number of matches won
  2. Set difference: Differences between sets won and sets lost
  3. Score difference: The accumulation of the difference between points scored and points received.
  4. Score: accumulation of points scored

Advanced options for badminton

Team colors: Activate this option if you wish to alternate the sides of the field to balance playing conditions (lighting, wind, etc.).

Groups: Create groups by level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) if your tournament mixes different levels, and add the group matching criteria of your choice.

Refereeing: Configure automatic selection of referees from among non-playing players.

Practical tips

  • Prepare a list of participants with their full names. For fixed teams, use a team name rather than a player name.
  • For a 16-player tournament, plan for a minimum of 4 rounds.
  • Use the print function to display matches on site, and the share function to send a link so that your participants can view the results in real time.

With these parameters properly configured, La Ronde Suisse will automatically manage pairings within the constraints of the Swiss system, allowing you to concentrate on the logistical organization of your badminton tournament.

Enjoy the game!
